Notes:
James Thurston Fitch (1880-1964)2 seems to have worked his way up
in the Drug Store business. The 1904-1916 Charlottesville city directories list him
as a drug clerk at various drug stores. The 1919 directory showed him having his own
drug store, called Fitch's Pharmacy.1
To see how he bounced around to various Charlottesville drug stores over the years,
here's a list of Fitch's occupation, from the residential section of the Charlottesville
city directories1:
1904: Drug Clerk at Johnson & Price
1906: Drug Clerk at Johnson & Price
  1910: Druggist
1912: Drug Clerk at Johnson & Price
1916: Drug Clerk at Marshall Timberlake
  1919: Proprietor of Fitch's Pharmacy
  1922: Proprietor of Fitch's Pharmacy
  1924: Proprietor of Fitch's Pharmacy
  1927: Druggist
1929: Pharmacist at Fitzhugh Bros Co.
1931: Pharmacist at Fitzhugh Bros Co.
1934: Pharmacist at Fitzhugh Bros Co. Inc.
1938: Pharmacist at S C Chancellor Co. Inc.
1940: Druggist at S C Chancellor Co. Inc.
1942: Pharmacist at University Drug Store.
  1950: Pharmacist at Fitzhugh Bros.
  1951: Pharmacist at Fitzhugh Bros.
The "Virginia Prohibition Commission. Records, 1916-1934, Accession 42740, State Government
Records Collection, The Library of Virginia, Richmond, Va.", listed Fitch's Pharmacy as registering
for medicinal liquor for the years 1918 to 1927, so I suspect those are the actual years that Fitch's
Pharmacy was in business.
The bottle below does not have a city name on it, but the person who sold it to me said it was
dug in Charlottesville VA, so it's likely from the Fitch's pharmacy in Charlottesville.
