White & Co
Company Names, addresses, dates:
  White & Co, Farmville VA (1869-1909) 1
White Drug Co, Farmville VA (1909-1940) 1
Notes:
White & Company was one of the earlier drugstores in Farmville, starting
in 1869. Dr. J.L. White was the original proprietor. 1
In 1912, the McIntosh & Sanford drug store split up. McIntosh formed the
Garland & McIntosh,
and Sanford merged with the White Drug Company.1
That might explain why one of the bottles below has both "White Drug Co" as well
as "McIntosh & Sanford" embossed on it, as the bottle was likely from the time
when the old & new drugstores were in transition.
Bottles:
|
These are clear 4.0" and 3.5" bottles embossed:
vertical: WHITE & CO / (mortar & pestle with "W & CO" on it) / DRUGGISTS / FARMVILLE / VA.

This is a clear 4.6" bottle embossed:

|
|
This is a clear 3.1" mouth-blown bottle with a generic embossing, and a WHITE DRUG CO label:

|
This 3.5" by 5.5" paper appears to be a prescription form used as a receipt.
It looks like it's from 1922, but it's a little hard to read. I think it says:
Printed vertically: WHITE & CO., Druggists / FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA.
hand-written horizontally: Received of W.G. Walker Esq / $6.00 payment in full of /
medical account. / W.E. Anderson / January 28, 22.

This is an almanac from the year 1891, that has White & Co printed on the back.
It was printed by the "Burdock Blood Bitters" company, and has many adverstisements for
Burdock Blood Bitters products throughout. On the back of the almanac it says:
Presented By / White & Co., / FARMVILLE,/ Prince Edward Co, VA.
