Village Drug Store

Company Names, addresses, dates:
The Village Drug Store, Highland Springs, VA

Notes:
The earliest reference I could find to this drugstore was a newspaper ad from 19221.

I don't know who started the business, but the earliest reference I could find to the proprietor was that Wilbert Daniel Russell Proffitt (1887-1964)2 was acquitted for the charge of filling prescriptions without a license as a druggist in 19243.
Proffitt sold the Village Drug Store in 19454

In 1949, the store was sold again. The previous owner was Anthony P. Mehfoud (1913-1998)5, and the new owners were J. S. Adams, Stella F. Abbit and H. M. Abbitt. 6
Of those 3, Herbert Moorman Abbit (1916-2007)7 was the pharmacist, as he is listed as the pharmacist on one of the bottles below from 1957.

The drug store lasted until at least 1972, as that is the last year I found any newspaper ads for it. At that time the address of the store was listed as 16 East Nine Mile Rd. 8
The address on some of the labels below was "Stop 29" on the "7 pines bus line". I was unable to confirm whether or not that was referring to the same address, but I suspect it was.

Based on the label of one of the bottles below, this pharmacy was part of the the Rexall chain of drug stores .
