  Wayland's Drug Store, Lexington VA (ca.1935-ca.1963) 3,4

Notes:
Edward Lewis Wayland (1879-1942)5 graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1905, with a degree in Pharmacy.1
He is listed in the 1910 US Census as a druggist, living in White Hall, Albemarle County VA.
In 1914, he moved to Lexington and started his own drug store.1

In 1920, Wayland parnered up with Benjamin Harvey Gorrell Sr. (1841-1889)6 to form the Wayland-Gorrell drug company.2
Gorrell moved to Philadelphia in 19227, however newspaper ads show that the name "Wayland-Gorrell" continued to be used up until 1935.3

Wayland passed away in 1942, but the store continued, using the Wayland name. The last newspaper mention I could find for Wayland's drug store was 1963.4

Newspaper ads for Wayland's drug store list its location at Main & Nelson Street (6-Dec-1917), Main Street next to Myers Hardware Co (19-Aug-1920), 6 North Main Street (1923 city directory), and 43 South Main Street (16-Oct-1963).

Other Items:
wayland_03 This is a 1.8"x1.8" cardboard box with a label from 1922 that says:
label: WAYLAND-GORRELL DRUG CO., Inc. / PRESCRIPTION DRUGGIST / LEXINGTON, VIRGINIA / ... 8-7-22
Since this box is dated 1922, and one of the labels above is dated 1950, I'd guess that the drug store started out as Wayland-Gorrell, and eventually became just Wayland's drug store.
