Notes:
They apparently had a Washington DC branch. They were at 400 7th Steet SW for 34 years. Later they had a branch in Alexandria - our bottle club used to meet there for club meetings in the 1970s, but that was before I was a member.
The Washington Coca Cola Bottling Company also had branches that were just outside of Washington DC, in both Silver Spring and Capitol Heights Maryland. These included:²

During some of the years of operation, these plants produced bottles that were marked with "WASHINGTON COCA COLA BOTTLING CO", however I try not to include those bottles in my collection.

	book # 142 These are BIM straight-sided crown tops with ribbed heels. The ribs are taller on the left-most bottle. Left is 8" and amber, center is 8" and aqua, and right is 7.7" and clear. They are embossed: front shoulder: Coca Cola / BOT. WKS. / WASHINGTON, D.C. back shoulder: TRADE MARK / REGISTERED base (left bottle): ROOT base (right bottle): 1502
	book # 144 This is an 8" amber straight-sided crown top embossed: front heel: Coca Cola back heel: WASHINGTON, D.C. base: O.B.CO
	book # 145 This is a 7.75" amber straight-sided crown top, that is embossed the same as the bottle above except that it has the word "REGISTERED". It is embossed: front heel: Coca Cola back: REGISTERED back heel: WASHINGTON, D.C. base: O.B.CO
	book # 146 These are similar to the bottles in the top row, but the city name is in a rectangular slug-plate on these. They are 7.8" tall with ribbed heels. The left one is aqua and the right one is sun-colored-amythest. They are both embossed: shoulder: Coca-Cola / BOT. WKS. rectangular slug plate: WASHINGTON, D.C. back: TRADE MARK / REGISTERED base (left bottle): 1502 base (right bottle): AGW / 114 The markings on the base are different, indicating they were made by different glass companies. That would explain why they're slightly different (the embossing is lower on the shoulder on the right bottle).

	book # 151 These are 7.7" aqua "hobble-skirt" style machine-made coke bottles. Other than the slight color difference, the difference between the 2 is the embossing on the base (one has "DC" and the other doesn't). 	book # 152 These 7.7" aqua machine-made hobbleskirt cokes are referred to as "Christmas" cokes, because the patent date is December 25th. If you're wondering how the patent office could have been open on Christmas day (like I was), I'm told that the date they use is always from the Tuesday of the week the patent was issued. 	book # 153 These are 7.7" aqua "hobble-skirt" style machine-made coke bottles from Alexandria and Washington. Left bottle is embossed: front: Coca-Cola / TRADE MARK REGISTERED / BOTTLE PAT D-105529 back: Coca-Cola / TRADE MARK REGISTERED / MIN CONTENTS 6 FL OZS base: ALEXANDRIA / VA Middle bottle is embossed: front: Coca-Cola / TRADE MARK REGISTERED / BOTTLE PAT D-105529 back: Coca-Cola / TRADE MARK REGISTERED / MIN CONTENTS 6 FL OZS base: WASHINGTON / DC Rightmost bottle is embossed the same as the middle one, but it it a smokey-brown color - probably from irradiation (somebody put it into an X-Ray machine).

	book # 158 This 11.5" aqua machine-made hobbleskirt coke has white pyroglazing, and a lip with threads for a twist-off cap. 	book # 158 This 9.5" aqua machine-made hobbleskirt coke has white pyroglazing. It is marked: front neck: return / for / deposit front: Coca-Cola / TRADE MARK (R) / 10 FL. OZ. back neck: money / back / bottle back: Coke / TRADE MARK (R) / 10 FL. OZ. embossed on the base: ALEXANDRIA / VA.
	book # 159 This is a 7.7" aqua (machine-made) fluted bottle embossed: front: WASHINGTON COCA COLA / BOT WKS back: CONTENTS / 6 FL OZ / PAT'D JUNE 2, 1925 base: WASHINGTON DC This bottle was patented by George Nicholas Mas, a bottle designer who lived in Washington DC. It's patent number is "Des. 67468", patented June 2nd 1925, lasting 14 years.
	book # 160 These are 7.7" machine-made crown top bottles. The one on the left is clear and the one on the right is smokey-brown, which inidcates it was probably irradiated (i.e. somebody put it into an X-Ray machine). They are embossed: front & back shoulders: (stars) / SODA WATER / CONTENTS 6 FLUID OZ front heel: PROPERTY OF / COCA COLA BOTTLING CO back heel: PAT DES NO 70281 base: ALEXANDRIA / VA I also have a clear bottle the same as these, except the base says "WASHINGTON / DC".
	book # (unlisted) This has the same patent number as the bottles above, but the embossing is different. It is an aqua 7.75" machine-made crown top bottle embossed: front shoulder: (stars) / SODA WATER / PROPERTY OF COCA-COLA back shoulder: (stars) / SODA WATER / BOTTLING CO. CON. 6 FL. OZ. front heel: 11 <()> 1 back heel: PAT. DES. NO. 70,281 base: WASHINGTON / D.C.
	book # (unlisted) This is a 7.75" clear machine-made crown top bottle embossed: front & back shoulders: (stars) / SODA WATER / CONTENTS 6 FLUID OZ base: COCA COLA BOTT CO / PROP OF / PAT DES / NO 70281 / G1946 / ALEXANDRIA, VA. It differs from the bottles 2-rows above in that the patent is embossed on the base instead of the heel.
	book # 161 This is similar to the two bottles above, except that it has a patent date. It is a 7.7" aqua machine-made crown top bottle embossed: neck: (six 5-sided stars) front & back shoulders: SODA WATER below that around the shoulder: PROPERTY OF COCA COLA BOTTLING CO. CON 6 FL. 	book # 161 Besides being a lighter color, this differs from the bottle above in that it has a different patent date. 	book # 163 These are 7.7" aqua BIM crown top-bottles. Left one is embossed: front/back shoulders: C.C.W. heel front: PROPERTY OF COCA-COLA / BOTTLING CO heel back: WASHINGTON, D.C. base: C.C.W. The bottle on the right is identical, except that it says "BOTTLING WORKS" instead of "BOTTLING CO".
	book # 164 These differ from the bottles above in that they're machine-made. The bottle on the right is identical, except that it doesn't say "MINIMUM CONTENTS 6 1/2 FLUID OZ.", which makes it identical the the bottle above on the right except that this one is machine-made.

Reid & Co. / Upperville, / Va According to an old newspaper, A.C. Reid & Co. had a General Store in Upperville, so apparently he was re-selling these cokes. I also have a receipt from the Robert Portner Brewery that listed A.C. Reid & Co. buying some Beer in March 1908.
	This is a receipt from 1912. It says: Phone, Main 7358 / 1418 E ST. N.W. / Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Inc. / WASHINGTON, D.C. Sept 4 1912 / ... / 12 Doz. COCA-COLA 4⁸⁰ / GINGER ALE / LEMON SODA / SARSAPARILLA / ... IMPORTANT NOTICE WHEN RETURNING EMPTIES / The above numbered Crates and Bottles are charged to your Acct. Must be returned prompt, full of Bottles, to get Credit. / ... In comparing this receipt to the one above, it appears the price for 12 dozen bottles went up from $4.50 to $4.80 between 1908 & 1912 (from 3.1 to 3.3 cents per bottle).
	This is a receipt from 1957. It says: Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Inc. / 400 Seventh Street, S.W. / Washington 24, D.C. / Telephone MEtropolitan 8-4274 / Date 2/20 1957 ... The price of 3 cases for $2.91 comes out to about 4 cents per bottle (or 7 cents if you don't return the empty bottle). I'm assuming a "case" was 24 bottles.
	This is a receipt from 1961. It says: Washington Coca-Cola Bottling Works, Inc. / 5401 SEMINARY ROAD / ALEXANDRIA, VIRGINIA / Telephone 481-2323 / Date 9-8-61 ...
	This is an ad from 1953. 	This is a photo from 1963, showing the Coca-cola building at 5401 Seminary Road in Alexandria. I don't think the exterior of the building has changed much since that time.
