Washington DC Area Beer & Soda Bottles

I collect antique beer and soda bottles from Washington DC and Northern Virginia. This web site has photos and information about the bottles in my collection.

I've organized my bottles based on whether they're from Washington DC or Alexandria (and Arlington) Virginia. Click on a link below to see a list of links to the bottlers and brewers:

Bottle Terms I use:
These are some of the bottle terms I use. I learned these terms from the book "Antique Bottles from the Washington, D.C. Area" by the Potomac Bottle Collectors, Fifth Edition.
Parts of a bottle:
Top or Lip - See diagram to the right
Neck - See diagram to the right
Shoulder - See diagram to the right
Heel - See diagram to the right
Base - See diagram to the right

Other terms & abreviations:
ABM - Automated Bottle Machine (a bottle that was made by a machine)
ACL - Applied Color Label (a label that was permanently painted on the bottle)
BIM - Blown In Mold (a bottle that was made by a human glassblower using a bottle mold) - opposite of ABM
BIMAL - Blown In Mold Applied Lip (BIM bottle with a lip that was added vs. being part of the mold)
SCA - Sun Colored Amethyst (color that some clear glass will turn when exposed to ultraviolet light)
