Notes:
Jeremiah E. O'Connor (1874-1955)2, a native of Ireland,
was listed as a bartender in the 1903 Washington DC city directory.
Starting in 1904 he was listed as owning his own salooon, located at
1230 7th Street NW. 1
The 1907 city directory lists
Patrick O'Hanlon
as taking over the saloon at 1230 7th Street, and O'Connor owning a liquor store
at 11 Monroe Street in Anacostia.
By 1911 both men had teamed up and opened the "O'Hanlon & O'Connor" Saloon in
Anacostia. The business lasted until 1915, when O'Connor filed suit for a
dissolution of the business, citiing irreconcilable differences. Besides the
saloon, the pair also owned a "moving picture theater". 3
By 1916, the dissolution was granted, and O'Connor took over the saloon,
under his name only.4
O'Connor continued to run the Saloon until 1917, after which time he
became a clerk working for the government.5
The bottle below says "M B & G CO" on the base, which stands for
the "Massillon Bottle & Glass Company", which operated from 1900-1904.
