Notes:
Edward Elmer Hughes (1895-1964)1 was working for the
L.H. Ott
drug store in 1917, when he got married.2
The 1920 US Census listed his occupation as a salesman in a drug store.
The 1930 US Census listed his occupation as a pharmacist in a drugstore, but he was
not lsted as the owner.
By 1935 he had started his own drug store at 7 E Market Street.3
So his drug store got started sometime between 1930 and 1935.
Some of the artifacts below have the address 7 E Market Street, and some
say 77 E Market Street, so it seems that the store moved down the street
at some point. Based on the dates of the artifacts, this happened sometime
between 1941 and 1954.
His death certificate in 1964 listed him as a pharmacist at the Hughes' Pharmacy,
so I presume his drug store lasted until at least 1964.4
His store apparently lasted beyond that date, as I found an advertisement
for it from 1968.5
Apparently the store was being run by his son,
Edward Elmer Hughes Jr. 6
