Notes:
Thomas Blencowe (1829-1904)⁴ was born in England. He came to Lynchburg in 1878 and started a drug business.²

The 1880 US Census lists Thomas as a druggist living in Lynchburg. It also lists both his sons, Charles (age 27) & Frank (age 24) as Druggists, and his son Alfred H. (age 17) as a "Clerk in Store". I don't know if any or all 3 of his sons actually worked in Thomas's store, but I suspect they did.

Thomas's brother Charles was listed in city directories as running his own drugstore in the 1885, 1887, and 1890 Lynchburg city directories.¹
Sometime between 1890 and 1900 he apparently moved to Berryville VA, and started his own drugstore there.^1,3

After Thomas passed away in 1904, his drugstore continued on. The 1907 city directory lists the name of the drugstore as the "Mrs. A.G. Blencowe", so apparently his wife took over the store. The 1908 & 1909 directories just list the name as the "Blencowe Drugstore". ¹
Thomas's son Frank passed away in 1908⁵, so I suspect that's why the store didn't last beyone 1909.
