Notes:
William Joseph Carter (1861-1941)2 was primarily known for his work with horses. He owned the New Market Track, and he wrote columns about horses. But in his early years he was involved in the drugstore business.3
He was born in Petersburg VA, and as a young man he worked for the O.P. Hare drugstore there. At age 20, he came to Manchester and eventually started a drugstore there with his brother. 3

His store lasted until 1924. 1
