Benjamin L. Pollard, 263 Old street, Petersburg VA (1877)
Notes: Benjamin Loyal Pollard (1850-1877)2
was listed with occupation "Drug App", living with druggist
O.P. Hare
in the 1870 US Census. I suspect that "App" meant "apprentice", and
that Hare was mentoring him.
It seemed like things were going well for him, as he had opened his own
drug store on Old Street by 1876. 1
But in 1877, he died from being thrown out of a horse drawn buggy
after the horse took fright from a pile of rubbish.3
