Walton & Smoot, 109 S. Main Street, Woodstock VA (1962-2019)
Notes:
Walton & Smoot bought Lin Irwin's drugstore in August of 1906.2
The following information was taken from "Early Woodstock Facts and Photographs"1:
Clyde E. Walton (1881-1826)3 and
Dr. James H. Smoot (1867-1941)4
purchased Irwin's Drug Store in 1906. The
drugstore was on the corner of Main and Court Streets, and had been started by Dr.
J.S. Irwin in the early 1880s. In 1935 Walton & Smoot was purchased by H.A. Moore
& George W. Clower, however the name of the store did not change. In 1952, the store
was bought by Millson French. In 1962, French moved the store to it's present
location, which was once the Geary Hotel. It was originally a 3 story building, but
in 1975 the 3rd story was removed after the building was damaged in a fire.
Walton & Smoot pharmacy closed in 2019, after 113 years in business5.
