Notes:
 George Gardner Congdon (1871-1947) was a tidewater druggist. He moved to the tidewater area about 1894 and over time he resided in Newport News, Hampton and Phoebus. He operated drugstores in each of those cities. 3

Congdon got his Pharmacist license in North Carolina in 1892. His first Virginia drug store was the Ideal Pharmacy in Newport News in the early 1890s. He moved to Hampton and opened the G. G. Congdon & Co drug store on Queen Street, as well as the Bellamy Pharmacy on King Street. At some point he moved to Phoebus VA, where he opened this drug store with his own name, as well as the Buck Roe Pharmacy. 4

In 1909, Congdon had an ad that mentioned "Congdon's Lung Balsam", which indicates he may have dabbled in creating his own patent medicine. 5
